Alicia Grullón is a Bronx-based artist creating socially engaged projects and performance art pieces. Her subjects include power relations, activism, urbanism, and the environment, expressed in a variety of forms. Inspired by citizen action movements, her response to current events or social issues comes from an impulse to use art as chronicle and witness.
Grullón work has been exhibited at El Museo del Barrio, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Socrates Sculpture Park, Marccone and BRIC Galleries. She has participated in Performa 11 and La Bienal (S-Files) Survey of Contemporary Latin American and Latino Artists in 2011. A recipient of a Franklin Furnace Grant for Performance Art, she has completed artists residencies for the Bronx Museum of the Arts, Korea Arts Council and in Kassel Germany. Recently she received a NYC Department of Cultural Affairs grant for Percent for Green, her project for inClimate. Grullón holds a BFA from New York University and an MFA from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
