Lillian Ball is a New York-based artist and environmental activist. Water imagery has been a constant subtext, but recent subject matter focuses specifically on environmental concerns. She has restored a number of wetlands, most recently WATERWASH® ABC on the Bronx River (2010 – 2014, ongoing). For inClimate she will invite visitors to learn about and experience these wetlands. Earlier Ball developed interactive game installations such as GO ECO. Metaphorically based on the ancient Asian game of Go, it uses video projections to encourage cooperation while guiding players through a wetland preserve. A multidisciplinary background in anthropology, ethnographic film, and sculpture inform her work. She has received numerous awards including a New York State Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Computer Arts, a John-Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in Visual Arts and a National Endowment for the Arts Grant in Sculpture. She has exhibited internationally, and traveled widely. An invitation to make a piece for the Swedish Embassy symposium “Water + Environment” resulted in an ice video about climate change above the Arctic Circle.
