WATERWASH Welcomes (Lillian Ball) – Opened on June 22nd, 2014
WATERWASH Welcomes ran from June 22 to October 18, with five special events. Ball spoke about her work at each. Once again Rocking the Boat (RTB) played an essential role. The young RTB apprentices led guided tours of the WATERWASH ABC site. But the highlight for visitors was a view from the river when they were invited to take short rides in beautiful rowboats made by the young people in the RTB Job Apprentice Skills program. They glided down the Bronx River to the headquarters of Rocking the Boat, rowed by staff, as the teens talked about how wetlands are vital in helping to control the flood waters of climate change.
Special buses took people from Manhattan to Ball’s site and back. Each event included lunch or other refreshments and the last was topped off with a screening of Jean-Marie Offenbacher’s Bronx River WATERWASH (2014), a documentary on the making of WATERWASH ABC, and a panel with Ball and RTB members at the Bronx Museum of Art.
